Promise Jobs
Promise Jobs is a program that provides services to any resident of the State of Iowa who meets the eligibility requirements and is receiving Family Investment Program (FIP) cash benefits. The eligibility requirements are determined by the Department of Human Services, and locally, Promise Jobs assists persons who reside in Woodbury, Monona, Ida, Cherokee and Plymouth Counties.
- Workplace Essentials helps participants achieve success in the workplace. The five unit class covers topics ranging from individual learning styles, communication skills to job retention skills.
- Job Club/Job Search is a group activity that helps participants develop interviewing skills and a job search plan and then provides guided assistance in finding employment.
- GED/High School completion is an approved activity for those needing to obtain secondary education diploma.
- Post Secondary Education, if approved, a person may be able to complete a degree or diploma that will enhance his/her employability by adding specific vocational job skills. Individuals must work with their Promise Jobs case manager to determine eligibility for post secondary education.
- Child care cost can be covered for anyone who has children under age 12 who is in an approved activity. Only registered child care providers or a home approved by the department of Human Services may be used for child care.
- Transportation allowance is paid to everyone who is in an approved activity. Your Promise Jobs case manager will help to determine your exact transportation allowance. Transportation is not paid during employment.
- Family Self Sufficiency Grant or FSSG is money that can be used by a Promise Jobs participant to overcome a barrier to employment such as the need for job related clothing or repair of a car. Your Promise Jobs case manager can help determine eligibility for FSSG.
