The Career Resource Center is located at the Western Iowa Tech Community College campus, room A309. We are able to assist with a variety of job and career related activities. The hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Some of the services we provide include:

  • The Career Resource Center assists with finding jobs on the internet, through print resources or networking with local employers. We have a local job board located in room A309 with recent job postings, as well as on our web site: www.witcc.edu/student_jobs. We can assist customers in creating networking letters and resumes that can help land jobs that are not advertised. Our computers have direct links to several popular and lesser-known search engines. Our staff can help you navigate through these sites to find the kind of job you want.
  • The Career Resource Center offers assistance in filling out applications, developing resumes and cover letters, interviewing tips and following up on job leads. Attend one of our workshops at no cost, or call to make an appointment for individual assistance.

Are you stuck in a dead end job and want to advance? Working part-time and looking for a full-time job? Laid off from your job and thinking about going back to school? Our Career Planning and Choices workshop can help you determine what careers you should pursue and which you should exclude. The Career Resource Room offers a variety of workshops designed to assist you in the decision making process.

  • Successful Budgeting & Managing Your Credit: Provides valuable information on surviving financially on a limited income. Also provides information on cost cutting tips, dealing with creditors and the process of conducting a personal review of finances.
  • Career Planning I: Designed to present occupational choices and help to begin the thinking process, whether you are changing employment or need direction while attending or returning to school.
  • Career Planning II (CHOICES): A computer software program using assessments and information that you choose from several lists. It will match occupational titles with the results and choices you make. Research information is available on these occupations to make decisions on training and job searches.
  • Transitions: Assists the participant to effectively manage change and the impact of change on their family. It addresses the effects of stress, grief, anger, job loss and lowered self esteem to self and family.
  • Writing Your Resume: This workshop will cover writing or rewriting an effective resume. It will also offer different ways to present a resume according to work history skills that would best fit your work situation and experience.
  • Steps to Enrolling in School: This workshop provides information for potential students and their families on school readiness, enrollment procedures, financial aid, critical school policies and resources for students.
  • Interviewing Skills: Information and exercises from application to interview will be offered. This workshop will also address interview questions, situations and follow-ups, interview attire and how to communicate effectively for a successful hire.
  • Creating Your Electronic Resume & Completing On-Line Applications: This workshop covers the format of scanned and electronic resumes. It also provides job search engines that accept electronic resumes, as well as how to format your paper resume into an electronic resume. Information will be given on the use of key words to help in getting an interview, especially for companies that use scanners as employment tools. Participants in this workshop should bring a resume saved to disk.
  • Internet Job Search: This workshop offers information on websites available in the Career Resource Center that will locate local and national job listings. It is geared toward beginning internet job seekers.
  • Organizing & Preparing Your Job Search : This workshop gives an overview on the job search process; including how to organize your job search, finding employment opportunities completing job applications, thank you and follow ups.
  • Exploring Today’s Job Market: This workshop covers labor market trends; including identifying jobs with high wages and job demand. Participants will also be able to find average wages and job demand for any occupation. It covers Iowa Job Outlook and Wage Surveys.

The Career Resource Center has information on local and national labor markets and information on a variety of occupations. This information will tell you wage demands and job descriptions: a vital tool in determining your career choice.

Our computers have high-speed access to online services available at Iowa Workforce Development, including applying for unemployment benefits and registering for employment services.

The Career Resource Center has 12 computers available for job search and career related activities. These computers are fitted with Microsoft Office products and computer tutorials to increase or build your typing skills.

The Career Resource Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. You may call (712)274-8733 ext. 1249 to sign up for a workshop, schedule an appointment, or to receive more information. It isn't necessary to make an appointment, walk-ins are always welcome! There are no eligibility guidelines for services; anyone is able to utilize the services we offer at not cost, and there is always a staff member available to help you.
